Mark Karasick is a Canadian artist, living and working in England. He has been experimenting with encaustic technique for over 40 years, encaustic is the Greco-Roman technique that is best known for the Egyptian Mummy portraits from Fayum and Hawara. In all his paintings Mark is trying to catch the intangible; his layers of pigment and hot wax over and over each other provide a vail like atmosphere.
Often before embarking on a large scale work, in order to work out an idea, he creates photographic studies that he overpaints with encaustic. These limited edition overpainted prints are based on that experimentation with each one of them overpainted individually, making them each unique work.
Mark has exhibited all over the world, working with public museums as well as private galleries. His most recent shows were group exhibitions at the National Gallery of Sweden and the Atenium in Helsinki.
He has his work in private collections in North America, Europe, Asia and New Zealand.
