Eleanor Crow

Eleanor Crow grew up in Cornwall, but has also lived in Suffolk, Gloucestershire, Scotland, Spain and for many years in East London. She studied at Edinburgh College of Art (BA Fine Art Drawing & Painting), and Central Saint Martins (MA in Communication Design). She worked as a book cover designer for Faber & Faber before returning to painting full-time, following short courses at the RDS with Robert Dukes; Heatherley’s with Daniel Shadbolt and St Ives School of Painting with Alice Mumford.

She has lectured at a number of art colleges in the UK and in the Czech Republic in drawing, illustration and book cover design, and teaches painting at the St Ives School of Painting. She works from life, with an emphasis on observation, light and colour.

Group exhibitions include the Royal Society of Portrait Painters, the Ruth Borchard Self-Portrait prize exhibition; the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, the Society of Women Artists, Lynn Painter-Stainers and the Royal Scottish Academy open exhibitions. She has had four solo shows at Town House Spitalfields in London, and regularly shows work at Morgans Falmouth and The Old School Gallery in Alnmouth.

She also has a book of watercolours Shopfronts of London published by Spitalfields Life Books with Batsford Books (2019), and is the illustrator of Grief is the Thing With Feathers by Max Porter.
