SEED

Sinead Foley

With a passion for fashion and a desire to support emerging talent, Sinead Foley founded Seed, a curated platform for unique, contemporary objects. 'I grew up in the Midlands and knew from an early age I wanted to work in fashion,' Sinead says. 'My mum has always been very creative and stylish, and I've benefited greatly from her wisdom and good taste.'

Sinead's background

Sinead undertook her art foundation, degree, and Masters in fashion before moving to London to work in the industry. She loved it, especially the travel, but always had a nagging feeling that she wanted to do something more. 'I always knew one day I would open Seed and work with emerging talent and together we would grow,' she says.

More about Seed

Seed curates, commissions, and sells unique, contemporary objects rooted in craftsmanship, design, and stories to enhance the lives of its customers. 'We hope our unwavering attention to detail just brings surprising moments of joy to the shopping experience,' Sinead says. 'From the products we source and curate to the music we play, how we present ourselves – our windows which are always the talk of the town and the service we offer.'

Key challenges

Opening her first shop and not having any experience of retail management was a significant challenge for Sinead. However, the community in Frome, other shops, and customers all helped her meet the challenge head-on. 'Running your own small business means wearing a lot of hats and learning constantly,' she says.

Successful highlights

Whenever Seed gets good feedback, it makes Sinead really proud. 'We work hard and when someone gets what we are trying to achieve it really means a lot,' she says. Becoming a mum in 2015 has also been a highlight, and Sinead is proud to show her daughter how to be a mum and business person at the same time.
