Ali Tomlin, can you tell me a bit more about yourself and why you began designing? I always drew as a child; firstly copying cartoons, drawing my friends and family and then I started on my bedroom, covering every surface with a painting or design. I had very tolerant parents! I heard about graphics and went on to do that at college, not discovering pottery until much later. I sometimes wonder how my pots would be if I'd found ceramics first.
Who inspires you the most? At the moment, Grayson Perry.
When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up? Donny Osmond's sister.
Where's your favourite place in the world? No specific place but by the sea with the sun low.
What advice do you have for aspiring artists? Do work that pleases you, this is rarely a business to get rich in but if you love what you do it's worth it.
What's your motto for life? Never stop dreaming.
What three things would you save from your home in a fire (not living!) Photo albums. My son's favourite toy. More photo albums.
What is your favourite film? Local Hero
