Saturday 6th June 2020, 10am - 1.00pm
Location: Seed's Workshop Room above the Gallery
Seed, 3 Catherine Hill, Frome, BA11 1BY
Join us in learning the art of Cyanotype, one of the earliest forms of photographic printing developed by the English scientist and astronomer Sir John Herschel in 1842. These prints are created by exposing treated paper to ultraviolet light, instantly recognisable for their bright cyan blue colour, hence the name cyanotype.
This workshop will be run by the wonderful Dr Rob Irving, artist and teacher of experimental practices in photography and fine art. He has developed new ways of working with cyanotype, which add a fresh dimension to the process.
During the workshop you will create A4 size cyanotype prints by exposing a range of flora and fauna. Materials will be provided, but please feel free to bring along your own flora and fauna to experiment with. The objects will be placed under glass so we advise bringing items that lay reasonably flat as these produce the best results, anything too “three-dimensional” will have a more out of focus look.
At the end of this three hour workshop your prints will require some extra drying time so will need to be left with us for a short period. If you are local or want to spend the day in Frome you can pop back from 4pm to collect them. Alternatively you can pay an extra £5.95 on the day and we will have them posted to you.
- This is a beginner’s level, so no experience is necessary.
- All materials are included within the price of the ticket.
- Workshop ends at 1pm but collection of work from 4pm to allow it to dry OR have it posted to you for £5.95 payable on the day.
- It may get a little messy so please bring an apron or wear old clothes.
- During this workshop you will be using potentially harmful chemicals, you will be instructed on how to use these safely but please be aware that you are attending this workshop at your own risk.
Ages: 16 +
Due to commitments to our workshop leaders we can only offer refunds for cancelations up to 30 days before the event. Full details of our workshop T&C’s can be found on our website, we advise reading this before purchasing your ticket.
